Trong bối cảnh hoạt động vận chuyển hàng hải ở eo biển Hormuz tiếp tục bị gián đoạn, những cuộc tấn công này càng làm trầm trọng thêm các rủi ro an ninh hàng hải ở eo biển Bab el-Mandeb. Phiến quân Houthi ở Yemen tuyên bố họ đã phát động một chiến dịch quân sự chống lại hai tàu chở dầu của Ả Rập Saudi ở Biển Đỏ bằng cách sử dụng tên lửa hành trình, tên lửa đạn đạo và máy bay không người lái. Nguyên nhân là do các tàu này vi phạm các hạn chế di chuyển hàng hải được lực lượng vũ trang Houthi công bố mới đây.
