Khu dự trữ sinh quyển Chính Sơn có hơn 1.500 loài thực vật và 766 loài động vật, trong đó có 54 loài được ghi vào Sách đỏ Việt Nam và Sách đỏ thế giới. Khu dự trữ sinh quyển núi chính còn có ba hệ sinh thái biển ngoài khơi điển hình là: rạn san hô, thảm cỏ biển, vùng bãi triều và rừng ngập mặn.

Ngọn núi chính độc đáo ở chỗ có khí hậu khô hạn nhất cả nước, lượng mưa ít và nắng nóng quanh năm, tạo nên một hệ sinh thái động thực vật độc đáo, phong phú và độc đáo. Được mệnh danh là “đồng cỏ gai” độc nhất vô nhị của Việt Nam, nơi đây có nhiều loài thực vật quý hiếm không có ở các khu dự trữ sinh quyển khác. Ngoài ra, ngọn núi chính còn có hơn 40 km bờ biển, nơi rùa biển thường xuyên lên bờ đẻ trứng hàng năm và có rạn san hô ven bờ lớn nhất cả nước (với 350 loài san hô).

Ông Trần Văn Hiếu, Giám đốc Ban Quản lý Vườn quốc gia Thủ Sơn - Phước Bình cho biết, việc UNESCO công nhận Thủ Sơn là Khu dự trữ sinh quyển thế giới là sự ghi nhận những nỗ lực của tỉnh Khánh Hòa trong việc bảo vệ và phát triển tài nguyên thiên nhiên, đảm bảo đa dạng sinh học, phục vụ nghiên cứu khoa học và phát triển bền vững.

Để quản lý hiệu quả và phát huy hết giá trị của Khu dự trữ sinh quyển Chushan-Phúc Bình, Ủy ban quản lý Vườn quốc gia Chushan-Phúc Bình đã thực hiện nhiều biện pháp, bao gồm tăng cường tuyên truyền và giáo dục về môi trường, xây dựng cơ sở dữ liệu về các loài độc đáo, có nguy cơ tuyệt chủng và quý hiếm, tổ chức các khóa đào tạo nâng cao năng lực, xây dựng kế hoạch khảo sát cỏ biển và cải thiện vườn thực vật, vườn ươm và hệ thống khu cứu hộ sinh vật biển để bảo vệ nguồn gen quý hiếm. Ngoài ra, Ban quản lý còn tiến hành đánh giá toàn diện về đa dạng sinh học, nhằm vẽ bản đồ chi tiết các khu bảo tồn để cung cấp dịch vụ quản lý hiệu quả.

Hiện nay, vùng đệm được bao bọc bởi các dân tộc bản địa như Raglai, Chăm, Hoa và có những nét văn hóa phong phú. Để tạo sinh kế bền vững, tỉnh Khánh Hòa đang mạnh mẽ khai thác tiềm năng của Khu dự trữ sinh quyển Chính Sơn và phát triển mô hình du lịch kết hợp du lịch sinh thái cộng đồng, bảo tồn thiên nhiên và trải nghiệm du lịch. Điều này không chỉ quảng bá hình ảnh ngọn núi chính mà còn tạo thu nhập ổn định cho người dân địa phương, đồng thời giảm sự xâm nhập của con người vào khu vực lõi và đảm bảo sự phát triển bền vững của hệ sinh thái.

Tuy nhiên, Ban Quản lý Vườn quốc gia Chính Sơn - Phước Bình vẫn gặp khó khăn trong việc đầu tư nguồn lực và hỗ trợ kỹ thuật. Cần có sự hỗ trợ của Bộ Nông nghiệp và Môi trường, Ủy ban Quốc gia UNESCO Việt Nam và các đối tác để Đồ Sơn có thể tiếp tục phát triển bền vững trong giai đoạn mới và xứng đáng là một trong 11 khu dự trữ sinh quyển thế giới của Việt Nam.
